What Is a Stainless Steel Slope Profile? Shower Fall Detail
A stainless steel slope profile is a product that finishes the side edge of a sloped tiled surface with a tidy metal edge. It is also known as a fall profile. This section, considered for shower areas, is not a means of giving the floor a slope; it is the part that completes the edge detail of a sloped covering designed beforehand.

A slope profile finishes the edge; the slope, drainage and waterproofing are resolved separately within the same detail.
What is a slope profile for?
When a shower floor slopes towards the drain, the height relationship at its junction with the adjacent surface can vary. A suitable section is considered so that this edge is not left open and forms a tidy line. The job of the profile is to finish the boundary of the covering; drainage of the water is provided by the floor geometry and the drain arrangement.
Stainless Steel Slope Profile (Fall Profile) is listed in the catalogue with a perforated flange that sits beneath the covering and an upright finishing face. The product information states a section height of 6–30 mm. The height required in the project must be verified against the actual covering and level relationship; this range does not mean that it suits every shower detail.
Which levels should be measured together?
The start and end levels of the shower, the position of the drain and the finished level of the adjacent floor are considered together. The surfaces that will exist once the tile and bedding are complete are taken as the basis. A measurement taken at a single point on the rough screed may not describe a relationship that changes along a long edge.
The edge on which the profile will be used and the direction in which the slope runs are shown clearly on the drawing. Adding a side section to the shower plan makes product selection easier. The slope ratio, however, is determined by the project requirement and the covering system; it is not derived from the profile dimension.
Quick selection by need
| Need / criterion | Option to review | Check point |
|---|---|---|
| Shower plan | Drain and slope direction | Edge where the profile will be used |
| Level measurement | Start / end levels | Finished tile surface |
| Profile choice | Section height and flange | Fit with the covering detail |
| System check | Waterproofing and drainage | Watertightness and standing water |
Relationship between tile, drain and waterproofing
The bottom flange of the profile is placed together with the tiling. Suitable support and a straight line are provided along the edge. A check is made on whether the metal edge creates an unwanted threshold that holds water on the covering. The direction of the drain and the tile cuts are planned together with this line.
Continuation of the waterproofing, the corner connections and the drain junction are separate system details. The section of the fall profile needs to be reviewed together with these layers. A stainless steel body does not mean that the connections are watertight or that water will not pass beneath the covering.

Installation and preparing for a quotation
Before cutting, the profile is dry-fitted with the tile and the adjacent surface. The slope direction is not changed during placement; the flange is set into a suitable bed. Residues are cleaned off without damaging the surface finish. In the completed shower, the drainage direction of the water and any unwanted pooling points are checked.
For a quotation, share the shower plan, the edge length, the start and end levels, the tile thickness and the drain position. If there is a steel grade or special environment requirement, state it separately. The visible face of the profile can be compared with the other bathroom metals on a sample. A selection made with the correct data brings the edge finish into line with the waterproofing and drainage design.

Frequently asked questions
Does a fall profile give the floor a slope?
Its basic job is to finish the edge of a sloped covering. The slope of the floor is designed in the substrate and the installation layers.
Does the profile provide waterproofing on its own?
No. Continuity of the waterproofing, the corners and the drain connection must be resolved with their own system details.
How is the product height chosen?
The finished levels at the shower edge and the tile layout are measured together. The product section is verified by comparing it with this information.
