PVC Panel Profiles: Choosing H, U, T and Corner Sections
PVC panel profiles are used to tidy the joints, open edges and corners of wall panels. The PVC in the category name describes the panel they are used with; the profile options covered here are aluminium. The right section is chosen both by the groove the panel will sit in and by the type of junction to be resolved on the wall.

First determine the type of junction, then match the groove size to the actual thickness of the panel.
Why are profiles used on panel edges?
The basic tasks of the profile are to tidy the appearance of cut panel edges, to form a defined line between adjacent surfaces and to finish the corners. On large surfaces such as TV wall cladding, shop walls and office decoration, the panel layout and the profile line are designed together.
The colour of the profile can create a decorative accent; however, the choice should not be made on colour alone. If the panel thickness and the junction geometry are not suitable, a section that looks good can cause binding, gaps or an uneven line in the application. This is why a trial fit with a panel sample is important.
The difference between H, U and T sections
PVC Wall Panel H Joint Profile is considered for two panels that meet side by side in the same plane. The U edge trim section is intended to finish a panel edge that is left exposed. In a T transition, the visible top surface sits over the joint line. These functions cannot automatically be substituted for one another.
For the PVC Wall Panel U Edge Trim Profile, the edge where the wall ends, the door frame or the detail of approaching another material is examined. The PVC Wall Panel External Corner Profile is chosen for a corner that turns outwards. An internal corner requires a different geometry; a photograph of the corner makes product selection easier.
Quick selection by need
| Need / criterion | Option to consider | Point to check |
|---|---|---|
| Flat joint between two panels | H joint | Panel grooves on both sides |
| Open edge of a single panel | U edge trim | Panel thickness and finishing direction |
| Visible joint cover | T transition | Top surface and connection detail |
| Wall return | Internal / external corner | Direction and angle of the corner |
Which dimension does the panel thickness match?
The technical information for the H joint model gives a 3.6 mm panel groove opening, an 11 mm top surface and a 26 mm base width. These are different dimensions. For the panel to fit, the groove opening is what is examined; reading the 11 mm visible strip as the panel thickness leads to the wrong choice.
The nominal thickness of the panel and its actual edge structure are assessed together. The coating layer, the cutting tolerance and the movement allowance required by the manufacturer are taken into account. Merely being able to push the panel in by squeezing it does not mean that the fit is adequate. The profile and the panel should seat together easily and evenly.

Layout plan and installation sequence
First the panel lengths, pattern continuity and joint axes are determined. Whether the line will fall in the middle of the wall or behind furniture affects the design decision. Before the profile pieces are cut, a dry trial is carried out with the panel. The flatness of the wall is checked; the profile cannot correct an uneven substrate on its own.
For illuminated options such as the H joint with LED, the strip, the cover and electrical access are also planned. It should not be treated as equivalent to the standard H section on appearance alone. Write the straight joint length, the internal and external corner lengths and the end pieces separately on the order list. In this way the total perimeter of the wall is not confused with the actual requirement.

Frequently asked questions
Is a PVC panel profile made of plastic?
The products in this category are aluminium sections used with PVC panels. The material information should be checked in the technical section of each product.
Does one H profile fit every panel thickness?
No. The panel groove must match the actual panel thickness and edge structure. The visible width of the profile does not show this fit on its own.
Do the profiles provide waterproofing?
A decorative joint profile does not replace the waterproofing behind the cladding. All the layers of a wet area must be resolved separately.
