How to Choose a Linear LED Profile and Housing
A linear LED profile is the section used to form the mechanical body of a linear luminaire. Unlike narrow decorative channels, it requires the light source and the other components to be laid out together. Choosing a housing is not the same as choosing a finished luminaire.

In linear lighting, the housing, the optics and the electrical components are parts of the same design.
What does a linear housing do?
The housing allows the LED module or a suitable strip and the cover to be arranged within the same body. The compartments and connection areas of the body form the basis of the luminaire design. It can be considered for linear light runs in offices, lines that follow product aisles in shops and orderly ceiling layouts in work areas.
The Linear Housing in the Yiğit Alüminyum catalogue is offered under product code Y1264 with a 76 × 50 mm outer section and a standard length of 3 m. These dimensions describe the outer body. The usable space for the LED, the connections and the driver must be measured separately, taking the internal dividers and the mounting components into account.
Why are the outer section and the internal space treated separately?
An outer width of 76 mm does not mean that an LED module of the same width will fit inside. The wall thicknesses of the body, the cover seat and the internal compartments change the usable space. Likewise, a height of 50 mm does not mean an uninterrupted cavity for the driver. In a three-dimensional layout, cable bends and connection allowances are taken into account.
If the driver is to be placed inside the housing, it is not enough for it to fit physically. Operating temperature, air circulation and maintenance access are also examined. It cannot be said that the same wattage is suitable for every housing. The electrical and thermal design is carried out together with the actual components to be used.
Quick selection by requirement
| Requirement / criterion | Option to review | Check point |
|---|---|---|
| Body | Outer section and internal compartments | Actual layout of the LED and the connections |
| Light surface | Cover and LED arrangement | Brightness distribution and glare |
| Electrical | Driver and power supply | Size, access and thermal conditions |
| Installation | Suspended / surface fixing | Load-bearing point and joint alignment |
How is the light surface designed?
Under a wide cover, one or more rows of LEDs can give different distributions. Whether a bright strip forms in the centre with darker areas at the edges is checked on a sample luminaire. Light quality is not decided on the outer width alone, without assessing the cover transmission and the LED layout together.
In an office project, the target illuminance, glare and colour properties are assessed on the finished luminaire. It should not be assumed that the aluminium housing on its own delivers a particular UGR or luminous efficacy. The desk, the screen and the ceiling height affect the luminaire layout.

Joint and installation plan
On a long run, the housing joints, the cover joints and the electrical connections are planned together. Cutting the ends cleanly and joining the pieces on the same axis affects the visible line. The components used for suspended or surface fixing are chosen to suit the load, the substrate and the housing geometry; the profile itself is not assumed to include the full fixing set.
You can review the Linear Housing section on the product page and compare it with your project lengths and internal layout requirements. For a quotation, share the length of each luminaire, the mounting type, the LED/module dimensions, your cover preferences and the driver position. Stating the number of cut pieces and the total metres separately makes production and packing easier to plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Linear Housing a ready-made luminaire?
The housing is a mechanical component. Whether the LED, driver, cover, end caps and fixing set are included in the sale must be checked separately.
Can the driver be placed inside the housing?
Even if the internal dimensions are suitable, the thermal conditions and maintenance access must be verified. The layout is determined by the requirements of the driver used.
Can long housings be joined to produce continuous light?
A continuous line can be aimed for when the mechanical joint, the LED cutting interval and the cover joint are planned together. The possibility of a visible joint or a dark area should be checked on a sample.
