How to Choose an LED Profile Cover: Diffuser Guide
An LED profile cover is the light-diffusing part that sits between the LED strip and the room. It forms the visible light surface and completes the front of the profile. Choosing the right cover is not only a matter of matching the width; the edge connection, the channel depth and the light appearance you want are examined together.

When choosing a cover, the correct locking groove is as necessary as the correct width.
What does a diffuser cover do?
A diffuser helps the light spread across the cover. The aim may be to make the LED dots less visible; however, the result does not depend only on the cover being frosted white. The LED spacing and the distance between the strip and the cover also matter. The same cover can look different in two different profiles.
The choice of cover also affects light transmission. A more diffuse light appearance and the amount of light that reaches the outside are assessed together. Sufficient light may be the priority for work surface lighting, while the look of the line may be the priority on a decorative run. Comparing the two cases with a sample on the same product leads to the right choice.
Polycarbonate and flexible cover options
Polycarbonate Cover is listed in the catalogue in frosted white with a choice of widths. When it is considered for straight profiles, the edge groove must match. The nominal width listed does not mean a common connection standard across all brands or all profile families.
Flexible Cover can be considered for following a curved line in compatible sections. The 15, 22, 25 and 32 mm options in the catalogue are chosen by matching them to the profile groove. Being flexible does not mean that it can be bent in every direction or to an unlimited small radius. In a curved application it is important to try the profile and the cover on the same sample.
Quick selection by need
| Need / criterion | Option to consider | Point to check |
|---|---|---|
| Straight run | Polycarbonate option | Edge connection and nominal width |
| Curved run | Flexible option | Bending direction and profile fit |
| Visible LED dots | Strip + cover trial | LED spacing and channel depth |
| Cover replacement | Identifying the existing section | Groove shape and a short sample |
How to match the dimensions
The first step is to identify the product code or the section of the existing profile. The opening of the cover groove and the locking edges are then checked. The visible width of the cover and the width of the LED strip are different dimensions; the two must not be confused when ordering. Measuring only the top surface of an old cover can lead to the wrong model.
On a short piece, the cover should seat without being forced and should not create a level difference along the run. A very tight or loose fit can be a sign of an incompatible section. Forcing the cover shut can damage the cover or the profile. Before ordering long lengths, it is useful to confirm the match with a photograph of the section and a short sample.

Cutting, joints and maintenance details
Cover lengths are prepared together with the profile cutting plan. The appearance of the joints and the behaviour of the material under temperature changes are assessed according to the product instructions; the cover is not fitted under unnecessary tension. A clean cut surface helps to give a neat finish on the visible light line.
During maintenance, avoid practices that could scratch the surface; the cleaning method is chosen to suit the cover material. Properties such as yellowing resistance, UV resistance or fire class can only be verified from the technical document of the product. For a quotation, share the profile code, the cover width, the shape of the run and its total length. In this way the mechanical fit is assessed as well as the appearance.

Frequently asked questions
Does a frosted white cover remove LED dots completely?
Not in every case. The strip density, the cover properties and the channel depth all have an effect together. A light test should be carried out with the actual product combination.
Are two covers of the same width interchangeable?
The locking edges may differ. Besides the width, the profile groove and the type of connection must also match.
Does fitting the cover make the system waterproof?
A diffuser cover on its own does not give the finished lighting an IP rating. The ends, the cable entries and the other components are assessed separately.
