How to Choose an Aluminium Skirting Board Profile
An aluminium skirting board profile is a finishing product that completes the junction line between the wall and the floor. It forms a neat metal surface at the base of the wall and tidies the appearance of the floor covering edge. To choose correctly, the profile height, its projection from the wall and the corner pieces should be assessed as parts of the same system.

When ordering skirting, calculate the metres, the number of corners and the open ends separately.
Where is it used?
In interiors such as homes, offices, shops and hotels, skirting forms a line that defines the perimeter of the floor. A flat face looks plainer, while a chamfered top edge can give a different transition effect. The choice is made together with the door frames, furniture legs and other metal details.
Height is not only a visual preference. The finish of the covering at the base of the wall, any existing marks and the floor junction are assessed. A very tall model does not give a better result in every detail; its relationship with sockets, door frames and fixed furniture should be checked.
Compare flat and chamfered models
The Aluminium Chamfered Skirting Profile and the Flat Skirting Profile offer different face shapes. Examine not only the front view of the profile but also the back section that touches the wall and the bottom edge. Unevenness in the wall can affect the quality of the visible junction.
Corner and end pieces must match the model. The corner pieces of two profiles that appear to be the same height may not fit each other. When choosing a Skirting External Corner Piece, the body model and the connection type are confirmed together. The internal corner and the end piece used beside a door are separate requirements.
Quick selection by requirement
| Requirement / criterion | Option to consider | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Visible face | Flat / chamfered model | Door frame and decoration |
| Profile size | Height and projection | Finished wall and floor |
| Corner turn | Internal / external corner piece | Model match with the body |
| End of run | End piece | Door sides and number of open ends |
How is the quantity calculated?
Measure each section of wall separately. Mark the door openings, the sections covered by cupboards and the surfaces that do not need a profile. Then count the internal corners, external corners and open ends. The total perimeter length does not tell you the number of pieces.
Preparing a cutting list based on the standard profile lengths lets you estimate waste more accurately. Consider which room the short offcuts can be used in. Instead of adding the same percentage for every room, compare the actual cuts. You can number the walls to reduce mix-ups of pieces during transport and installation.

What determines the appearance at installation?
The levels after the wall and floor finishes are complete are taken as the basis. Fixing is carried out in a way that suits the profile section and the surface material. The adhesive or fixing method is chosen according to the product detail; a single method is not suitable for every wall. At corners, a dry fit lets you check how the corner piece sits and whether the line is continuous.
With coverings that need a movement allowance, such as wood flooring, the skirting must not restrict that allowance. The cleaning method is also chosen to suit the surface finish; abrasive treatments can scratch the visible metal. For a quotation, share the wall section lengths, the model, the surface colour and the number of pieces together. This makes the materials list more ready for installation.

Frequently asked questions
Can it be installed without corner pieces?
A cut corner can be considered in some details. Suitability depends on the section, the quality of the finish and the installation method; the connection recommended for the model should be taken as the basis.
Does skirting cover the expansion gap of wood flooring?
It can cover the gap visually; however, it must not be fixed so tightly that it prevents the flooring from moving. The gap required by the flooring manufacturer is maintained.
How many corner pieces should I order?
Count the internal and external corners separately on the plan. Also list the ends that finish beside a door or in the open separately as end pieces.
